This week, I learned a lot about setting goals. One point that I gained from is that you should make goals that motivate you and this will enable you to complete the process and reach them. The articles from this week's module discussed the need to write down your goals, form an action plan by breaking up your goals into smaller steps (either forward or backward), and make sure that you are measuring your success and getting appropriate feedback. I feel like I have gained a comprehensive approach to setting and reaching goals successfully. Additionally, I learned more about the topic of ethics including what stakeholders are, different types of claims, and about the validity and soundness of an argument. The readings on these topics were helpful in preparing my outline for the upcoming ethics paper.
Educational Goals
My educational goals for CSUMB's computer science degree program are as follows:
- Graduate with a grade of A- or higher in every class.
- Learn the material thoroughly and supplement my classes with additional learning.
- Refine my interests in the field and find a career path that calls me.
Career Goals
I have not worked in the computer science field before and I am not even sure what specific path within the field I am interested in, so my career goals are general. They are as follows:
- Obtain my first job in the computer science field.
- Continuously advance positions.
- Experience high job satisfaction.
ETS Computer Science Test
When I first heard that we would be taking the ETS Computer Science Test at the end of the program, I was very nervous. Looking over the test description and sample test, however, calmed me down. Although I did not know the material, a lot of the concepts were familiar to me and I feel that after learning throughout the next two years and preparing for the test, I will do well. After looking at the sample distribution of scores, I think I will get somewhere around the 80th percentile because I am usually a good test taker and this program will be comprehensive and prepare me.

Great! Your goals are specific, vivid, and attainable. I love that you included job satisfaction as one of your major career goals. All too often, this small but important piece gets overlooked in the race towards outward success. With this goal, you demonstrate the understanding that outward success is not worth much if one is unhappy. Wishing you much success and satisfaction in your chosen career path!
Hey Yoela,
Your goals are very focused and achievable. After having surveyed the courses within the CS program, I think that you will be exposed to various aspects of computer science which will help you determine which career path within it you want to pursue. Judging by the previous capstone projects that have been submitted, you will be a capable engineer at the end of the program regardless of which career path you ultimately decide to follow.
