This week, I learned about different skills and traits that employees value in their current employees and search for when hiring. Employees seek workers who can work well in a team in both a leading and supportive role, is dependable to deliver projects and assignments on time and can be innovative and proactive to produce solutions to problems. These qualities are indicative of a dedicated, successful employee. Another assignment this week was to write a resume and cover letter. I think this is a valuable assignment that will help us in the future when seeking internships and job positions. A resume should be concise, compelling, mistake-free, and emphasize one's achievements and results, as opposed to merely listing job responsibilities. A cover letter should be addressed to the specific person who will receive and review it and showcase excellent writing skills. I learned that I must make sure these documents are polished and grab the reader's attention to distinguish myself among the competition. We also started brainstorming ideas for our team video presentations. My group met and developed three possible ideas: assistive technology and how it helps those with disabilities, the technology and safety of self-driving cars, and 3D printing technology and how it will transform product manufacturing. I think these topics are all fascinating and look forward to beginning research. Lastly, I have been working on my ethics paper. It has been challenging to develop all my ideas in the best way and produce a concise, organized, and informative paper that flows well. I will continue to tweak and perfect my writing so I can feel proud of the final product.
Help Your Teammates to Develop Capstone Ideas
During our team meeting, we discussed our ideas for the upcoming capstone project. Jose's idea of a recipe storing database is a creative, original idea, and can even contain sharing features with friends and family. I like Bracha's idea of creating a voice-activated app for the classroom and think it can be of value to many teachers. My teammates commented that they were interested in my idea of an app that inventories the products in your house, but Jose shared that he has encountered a similar app, so I will have to check that out. My teammates' ideas and input are always much appreciated.
