This week was the first official week of class! Only 99 more weeks to go! This week focused on learning the history of CSUMB, getting familiar with online courses, and a lot of warnings describing plagiarism. Also, we were assigned an outline and sample reference page for our first paper. I like how everything is very organized and I am able to check things off as I go. I started off with all of the short, easy assignments, and kept procrastinating the main assignment. In the future, I need to work on big assignments a little bit each day.
Five Step Strategy for Student Success with Online Learning
I enjoyed reading through the steps for success in an online class. I have been in many online classes in the past and know these tips to be very helpful. It was a great reminder of what I should keep in mind as I begin this class. One of the tips that I practiced this week was asking questions when I needed clarification.
Ted Talk - Computer Science Education
I chose to watch this optional video and I am glad I did. I really liked the way Ashley Gavin gave over the message to inspire students to exercise their creativity in the field of computer science. I think approaching computer science in this way will motivate and excite students to do their best and keep learning.
Industry Analysis Outline and Reference Page
This was the first major assignment. The instructions for the outline were very clear and I was able to research and structure the outline as a basis to my paper. The tricky part was citing the references. The resources about the APA style provided was not comprehensive and the example assignments given varied in style, so I was not sure how to cite some of my sources. I did my best and will ask for clarification next week.
