I can't believe we have reached the final course in CSUMB's online program! I am really excited to be starting this class and begin working on the final project. My teammates, Jose Herrera Gallegos, Matthew Taylor, and Justin Thomas, and I are working on BIRS, a behavior and injury reporting system for Dorrie Coman and Porter Youth Center, an after-school program servicing military families.

This week be started off with the preliminary work for our project. Our team met to discuss our plan for the week, incorporating some of the tips for effective meetings that we read about this week. Week 1 of project development included creating the database schema, setting up the program and initializing our repositories, as well as creating lo-fi mockups for our web application. See the image to the right for an example of a mockup that I designed. We also wrote our first project update and contacted Dr. Shahidul Islam, our advisor for this course. I am looking forward to working with him and receiving his feedback and guidance.

Additionally, this week we read about our upcoming ETS test, a standardized computer science test that we will be taking next week. We completed sample problems to familiarize ourselves with the format of the test and the material that will be covered.

Lastly, I submitted my portfolio website shell. This website has a page for each course along with the course description and displays the major outcomes from each class. Over the next few weeks, we will be populating the site with all of our final projects or assignments, which will result in a diverse portfolio to present to future potential employers.

I am excited for next week to jump into the coding of our BIRS project with full force!
