They say hindsight is 20/20, what advice would you give to the next cohort regarding this course?

The main tips that I would give are commit to spend a lot of hours trying to understand the material, be patient, and ask for help. There were times when I thought I would never understand something or never finish an assignment, but you just need to keep pushing through and you will get it! Your teammates are a really great resource so take advantage to discuss the assignments with them and ask questions. You need to push yourself, but you will feel very accomplished at the end of the class!

How much do you envision using the skills you gained in this course in your career?

I think the skills I gained in this class will be extremely useful in my future career. First of all, working on a project together with my teammates will prepare me for working with coworkers at a future job. Also, the fact that we built upon previous assignments taught me how to add on to and change existing code. Learning how to create a UML diagram and organize the classes and their relationships will be extremely helpful. Lastly, the experience with the actual coding of Java and using Android Studio will definitely aid me in my career.

Final Project

The final project was to create a program or app using what we have learned in this class. I really enjoyed using Android Studio last week, so I decided to create another app: a BMI Calculator. The user enters his/her weight and height in either standard or metric measurements and the app calculates and displays the user's BMI, as well as displays the user's weight category. I watched the next few videos by Johann Jurius to learn about intents and switching from one screen to the next. All in all, it was a really enjoyable project and I liked that we were able to be creative. I feel so accomplished that I have finished the class!
