I learned a lot in my first week of the CST334 Operating Systems course. The reading assignments and lectures focused on teaching all about operating systems, including what they are, their purpose, and their components. The main goals of an operating system are to manage resources and create abstractions. The text then delved into these in detail and explained the idea of virtualization, which I had never learned about before. I was also introduced to the different parts of an OS like the CPU, memory and I/O devices. Additionally, I was enlightened into the process of how a program is run; the instructions are fetched, decoded, and executed using buses, registers, and other vital components.

Once I had this fundamental background, I was able to delve into Linux and work with bash shell scripts. Although I had taken a Linux class previously, I practiced to refresh my memory of the various commands and get used to working with the command-line once again. Consequently, I was able to create, manipulate, and run the shell script for the first lab. This class is a fast-paced, rigorous course, but I know that I will accomplish and learn a lot!
